Pull up your socks, and jocks

That's the expression I heard today about the Canadian Men's performance at the Torino Olympics. Personally I say it should go more like, Give yourself a good swift kick in the ass, and jock. Our Canadian Women have performed better than any other countries female olympic team, doubling the amount of medals won by the Canadian men. And don't even get me started with the men's hockey. Women = whoop ass city, Men = what city are we supposed to be in? Don't get me wrong, the winners all did awesome, and the Women's effort made up for the dismal performance by the apparently lesser species, and we are on pace to be awarded third place in the olympics come tomorrow's Closing Ceremonies which, despite my rant, is awesome; and I'm stoked at how we are only a hand full of medals behind first place, and only one behind the US. The hype is on about Whistler in 2010, and I for one believe it. If you look at the number of close podium finishes we had (ie. fourth by hundredths of a second) we're looking pretty good for Vancouver come 2010. So, really the only thing I'm mad about is the hockey. I mean we got the men's curling gold, that's canadian, we got silver in men's bobsleigh, also very canadian,, and two medals in men's luge, super canadian. But how can Canada not even medal, or worse yet not even make it to the semi-finals in men's hockey of all things; especially after winning four years ago, after which it was declaired that Canada would be the hockey power house the next decade. It has something to do with Gretzky being loyal to a fault, going with the veterans and players who shouldn't have been there based on their previous play, as opposed to bringing the young, new, energetic, and increadibly tallented players that would have likely made the difference. So, gentlemen it's time to look towards whistler/Vancouver in four years, and pull up your socks, and jocks.
